New Collection – Men's Autumn 24

New Collection – Men's Autumn 24

We are so pleased to share our AW24 collection with all you good folk. This season, we invite you to Slow Down and revel in the easy clean lines, effortless style and highly invested materials of the autumn offer…

Inspired by rich simplicity, we looked at that artistry at its best, to the work of Piet Mondrian, a master of pared back visual compositions that never compromise on design or feeling. Taking his teaching that “Vertical and horizontal lines are the expression of two opposing forces… their reciprocal action constitutes 'life'” , we’ve integrated stripes and grid-like textures extensively through the collection (try the ‘Rust Multicheck’ Patch shirt; a super-scale plaid herringbone weave fabric).

Drawing inspiration both from his most famous pieces and our own archival styles, we’ve reimagined classic designs like The Carcoat. With a more relaxed silhouette and crafted it in an Italian soft brushed twill fabric, it’s been updated with a removable fleece liner for maximum versatility during the colder months. We’ve also added completely new designs like the Waffle Vest, specifically designed with the transitional seasonal periods in mind.

We found that while Mondrian’s most famous works are very graphic and clean, some of his earlier paintings have more movement to them, full of irregularities. We took a trip to the studio of long-time friend of Folk, Kate Gibb, whose pieces are also dominated by grids and lines, but with a looser stroke. We loved the texture and dimension of these works and how, like Mondrian’s early pieces, their quirks are what give them character. From this we decided to include details like the painterly, speckled textures feature across various categories of the collection. (Take the jersey and sweat styles of the Engineered Raglan or the ‘Slate Silk Nep’ of the Assembly suit).

To mirror the cooling of the seasons, there is a softness in the weave we’ve chosen; with flannels, cords and brushed twills that provide a relaxed, casual feel. There is also a rich selection of fleece and knit pieces like the ‘Rust Multi Jacquard’ which comes in an abstract design inspired by our visual research, in either a rust or Navy Checkerboard texture. Future warm classics, if you will.

Throughout the collection, the colour palette is formed of pigmented tones of Mid Blue, Mustard and Rust which have a warm, autumnal feel. We’ve used highs and lows of each colour to give depth and variation in each and every garment. As ever, Folk’s signature tones of Navy can be found in many of the pieces, as well as neutrals of Slate, Reds and Sage that give a rich, earthiness to the range.

So, as the seasons shift and life picks up its pace, remember that time slowed down is time well-spent. You may find that the most fulfilling moments are found in the spaces between the rush of daily goings on. In the spirit of Mondrians words The surface of things gives enjoyment, their interiority gives lifewe hope the surfaces of the garments we’ve made bring joy and that wearing them makes for a life well-lived. Take things slowly, bit by bit, take time to enjoy the good stuff, and always keep good Folk close by.
