The name of this collection is Good Feeling and that's what it's about.
Coinciding with our Twenty Fifth anniversary, comes a new collection which packs all the great Folk Spring optimism that kickstarts our year with, of course, the garment design & love that generates the special relationship we have with you. We are lucky to be able to make clothes that our friends enjoy and cherish, lucky that people appreciate our vegetable dye washes, the subtle details, our versatile styling, the organic cottons... It’s a Good Feeling.
For creative inspiration we looked to the work of Japanese contemporary artist, Keita Miyazaki whose sculptures of discarded car engines and abstracted origami-like folded paper have a gentle eccentricity – Finding beauty in the overlooked or under-appreciated is a philosophy we’re always drawn to here at Folk.
Shadow play from Miyazaki's sculptures became the starting point for this season’s print; using soft shapes, with areas of lightness and reverb. Intrigued by his gentle and unexpected colour combinations, we use seasonal tones of Ecru, Sage Green, and a punchy Orange, adding a flash of colour to sit against the signature blues and navies we’re known for.
Abstract embroidery and varied fabric textures were influential to us this season. We wanted to find ways of adding garment structure and composition without compromising on the lightness required for the warmer months. And our design team did not disappoint. From fine cotton summer shirtings to rich, tapestry-like jacketing cloths with more substance and body – there's something for everyone in every type of weather to help you navigate the season's transitions. You’ll find the Zaki Tee and the SS Revere Shirt to be ideal shirting options for hotter days. This ethos even made it into our knitwear: shaped in a lightweight cotton yarn, the Saddle Cardigan with its wide vertical stripes is a great summer layering piece.
New in, the Pintuck Jersey Bomber and Trouser are standout garments this season. Based on archival pieces, both styles are in a smooth, interlock jersey that have a clean, organic, technical feel. They also feature a raised pintuck detail, a nod to the concertina of Miyazaki’s paper sculptures. Our new elasticated Wide Fit trouser is an update from our autumn lookbook. Its compact cotton with paper-like hand feel and relaxed block make them great for the warm evenings ahead.
So trust us when we say it’s a joy to shape the way you move through the season. Like Miyazaki’s ‘continuously developing sculptural language’ every season we take pleasure in the process of evolving & honing our craft. We hope you will enjoy this research & development, underpinned as ever with the optimism & light-touch that sets Folk apart.
Here’s to a season of wearing the things that bring you joy and doing the things that make you smile. We've got a Good Feeling about this one…
